Craft Hoarders Anonymous Challenge

I'm going to try and start entering some challenges with my projects.  I don't always have time to do these on a regular basis but maybe if I just stick to a couple a month I should be ok.  Ok on with it.  Craft Hoarders Anonymous is a blog that is run by the very talented Gloria Stengel.  I love the idea of using things from our stash and hoard vaults.  Too often I have wanted to enter a challenge with companies only to find that we needed the very latest paper collection to be able to enter.  Now I have to admit that I have a huge craft room and probably more supplies than many others but I can't keep up with buying the very latest supplies from all the companies that I love.  Plus I'm trying to start a Close To My Heart business and am finding myself to be my only customer so far.  LOL

So, Gloria, thank you for coming up with this idea. Craft Hoarders Anonymous Challenge Blog

The challenge is to use a tag.  It can be used on a card, in a layout or on it's own.  Just use a tag.  I had some that I had bought on clearance sometime ago and they have sat in a drawer for the longest time.  I finally got them out and played around a little.  I really like how they turned out.  I started by inking the edges and then stamped several images all over the tag.  I used a texture spray randomly all over the tags followed by a few shots of Lindy's and Tattered Angels.  I stamped a butterfly in blue ink and then added flowers from Wild Orchid Crafts and finished them off with ribbon and trim from my stash.  Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog!

Challenge #69 themed Anything Goes

Welcome to another challenge at Lia Stampz.  I can't believe how fast the summer is going, it's just whizzing by.  Slow down a little so we can enjoy it.  Anyway the challenge is themed Anything Goes.  I like these challenges, I always find them to be the easiest to do.  It can be good to have a structure to guide you such as a sketch but for the most part I find that I am most creative when I can just let loose and do whatever my heart desires.  LOL

This card was also great to make because I used scraps.  That's always a bonus to use up pieces from my scrap boxes.  Yes I said boxes, I have 8 shoe boxes set up to hold different colours of patterned paper and cardstock.  This image is called "Summer Girl" and I used Copic markers to colour her in.  I'm running out of colours that I can use because several of my markers have run dry and I don't have any re inkers.  I took them to my local craft store but she didn't have re inkers in the colours that I needed.  I don't want to buy anymore because Close To My Heart is coming out with new markers in their new idea book and I'll probably give them a try as they are cheaper than Copics.

Here's a link to the blog challenge if you'd like to join us.  You don't have to use a Lia Stamp but it's a bonus if you do!  Here's a link to Whimsy Stamps where you can purchase this image.

I was very kindly informed that I forgot to include the picture of my card.  LOL  I am not surprised as I've been up all night and not functioning terribly well.  Here is the card.  Thanks for letting me know Nancy!

Dr. Who Birthday Card

Quite often I'm asked to make a special card for someone that I don't already have for sale on my Etsy site.  Recently someone asked me to make several (I think there were a dozen or so) cards for different occasions.  One of those card requests was for a fan of the Dr. Who series.  I accepted the challenge with a little hesitation because I don't watch the program.  I've never even seen one episode so it makes it a little more difficult to come up with a card.  I had to ask a friend what would best represent the show.  He suggested that I make a Tardis, a telephone box of sorts.  Ok I googled it and then set about making the card.  I tried to draw it out and should've realized what a bomb that would turn out to be because I really suck at drawing.  LOL  Even my stick people are awful.  I started looking through all of my Cricut cartridges to see if there was anything I could use but no luck.  I wondered about my dies and came across these from Memory Box.  Here are the pictures to show what steps I used to create the Tardis.  Let me know what you think.

I cut out 2 of the windows and connected them in the middle.  I tried using the door die that I have but the boxes in the middle of the door just weren't right.  With the window die, the openings were all the same size.

I backed it on black cardstock to make the blue 'pop.'
I used the pop outs from the windows to make the panes for the box.  I pop dotted them so they would be raised panels.

I also thought of cutting out 2 of the flower boxes and adding them to the top and bottom for a little extra added detail but that made the whole unit 2 big for my card.  But if you want to try making this for yourself, you might try adding the boxes.  Overall I'm happy with the card, even though I thought it looked a little too handmade but good for a first attempt nonetheless.  Enjoy!  If you decide to make one yourself, I'd love to see what you come up with.
